MPP Rick Nicholls Criticizes Hydro One

Chatham-Kent-Essex MPP Rick Nicholls is disappointed in the Ontario Energy Board and Hydro One's outreach to citizens.

He says the energy companies held the first of a series of meetings Thursday in Leamington and barely anyone from the community showed up.

"Unfortunately, in my opinion, the numbers were poorly attended. That's not because of a lack of interest from the people from Leamington and area. I believe the whole event was poorly advertised," explains Nicholls.

Nicholls says Hydro one is holding these meetings throughout the summer to get community feedback on a possible rate increase.

"This would be the 11th rate increase from Hydro One in five years... well, that's gotta stop. This record is starting to get worn out," complains Nicholls.

"They say we need more money for infrastructure and on the operation side and I look at it and say hold on. You have a CEO that earns $4.5-million and now you're going to the Ontario Energy Board saying well we don't have enough money, we need to increase our rates. I'm saying stop right there," he says.

Nicholls hopes more members of the community will hear about the next local energy meeting to contest the rate increase and voice their opinions.
