Ridgetown High Holds End Of Year Ritual

A cavalcade of tractors has taken to the streets of Ridgetown for the local high school's annual ritual.

The Ridgetown District High School Tractor Day Parade was held Thursday afternoon with dozens of students and tractors walking and rolling through the town.

School teacher Tom Van Eerd says it marks the end of the school year and supports the agricultural roots of the town.

Van Eerd says Ridgetown is a very strong agricultural community and Tractor Day makes sense.

"Why don't we have a tractor day and we'll celebrate the agricultural community and other things that go on that aren't academic or sports related and that's how it came about," says Van Eerd.

Van Eerd says students have been bringing their tractors to school for the parade for almost a decade. He says this year's parade had a tractor from 1944.

Daniel Boldt, a student at the school, drove his tractor in the parade for the first time and says it was so fun that he'll do it again next year.

"First time, it was great.  Just this community, how we all love to help support this community I guess," Boldt says.

Another student, Riley Clark, has been driving his grandfather's tractor in the parade for the last two years and says it's a fun get-together.

"Good time, fun, get out with the friends and get out in the sun.  I think it's just a good time to get together with friends and show off what you got," says Clark.
