Boy Hit By Car In Chatham

Chatham-Kent police say an 8-year-old boy is receiving treatment in a London hospital after he was hit by a car on Thames St. in Chatham.

The crash happened just before 6pm Tuesday.

Officers say their initial investigation indicates the boy was playing with a friend when he ran out onto the roadway and was hit by the car.

At this point, police do not believe the driver was speeding or driving recklessly.

The initial report indicates the driver slammed on the brakes before the crash -- the area where the boy was hit is a 50 km/h zone. The report also notes that the boy may have lost consciousness for a short time after the crash.

He was airlifted to Victoria Hospital in London as a precaution, but the boy's injuries are believed to be non-life threatening at this time.

Police don't believe charges will be laid in connection with the case, but the investigation is ongoing.
