UPDATE: Hwy. 401 Fully Reopened After Fatal Crash

The OPP have reopened the westbound lanes of the Hwy. 401 near Shedden after a crash that claimed the life of tractor trailer driver.

The Ontario Provincial Police say on Wednesday around 12:30am, a Volvo tractor trailer was heading eastbound on the highway when it crossed the centre median east of Union Rd., rolled over, and collided with a Freightliner tractor trailer that was heading westbound.

The driver of the Freightliner, 66-year-old Gary Lent from Etobicoke, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The male driver of the Volvo was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He is currently listed in good condition.

There were no passengers in either vehicle.

The westbound lanes of Hwy. 401 were closed for several hours while police conducted an investigation. The right lane was reopened just before noon, and the highway was fully reopened around 5:30pm.

There has been no word if any charges will be laid.
