The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority is urging all residents to have a flooding emergency plan.
Community Relations Coordinator Bonnie Carey says the most important thing you can do is find out if you live in a flood prone area because some areas are more prone to flooding than others.
Carey says south Chatham and the Thamesville area are usually the hardest hit areas and people who live there should already have a flooding emergency plan, adding "it's best to learn about your municipality's emergency plan -- the warnings, evacuation routes and locations for emergency shelters."
Posting or knowing emergency contact numbers is also key to safety, as is protecting important possessions that could be damaged by water.
"Keep valuable documents and irreplaceable items in a secure dry place, up high," says Carey and adds family is important, but don't forget about neighbours and pets too.
