Picking Up Friends

Employees at the Chatham-Kent Public Library say it's difficult to make friends as an adult, which is why they're looking to help make that a bit easier.

The CKPL is hosting a Speed Friend Dating event for people in their 20's and 30's.

Circulation Services Librarian Megan Cowan says this concept has been done at other libraries so they thought they'd bring it to Chatham-Kent.

"Being of that age group we can relate to how hard it is to find friends when you're in a new place or starting a new job," says Cowan. "So we thought, 'why couldn't the library be that place [to make friends]?'"

The event is supposed to run like a typical speed dating event, where people rotate every two minutes.

So far Cowan says people are jumping at the chance to participate.

"We've had a couple of people who are new to the community saying that this is a great way to get introduced to CK and the people around here," she says. "We've also had a lot of interest from people in other age groups asking why we haven't done this for them already."

The event is taking place at the Chatham branch on February 16 at 6:30pm.

People are being asked to register before hand, but room will be available for any last minute attendees.
