Chatham-Kent's Unemployment Rate At 6.2%

For the first time since January 2014, Chatham-Kent's unemployment rate is below the provincial average.

But Acting Economic Development Director Stuart McFadden is more excited that there are around 50,400 people working in the municipality.

"The unemployment rate is down, but the most positive part is the amount of people working is up," says McFadden. "Percentages can be manipulated, but that is the fact and figure that we stand by."

The month of September saw CK's unemployment rate at 6.2%, compared to Ontario's rate of 6.7%. McFadden adds the success reflects the local business community's dynamic growth.

"We are seeing a lot of companies investing in new technology and equipment that makes them more competitive on the global stage, and that's what's inspiring the job growth," says McFadden.

McFadden adds the last time CK had this many people working was in September 2008.
