The chair of the Sarnia-Lambton Health Coalition says it's frustrating the former Erie-St. Clair LHIN CEO could receive a $550,000-plus severance package while hospitals struggle with funding shortfalls.
Shirley Roebuck says it's galling because Gary Switzer has landed another job with the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
"It is a very hard pill to swallow that Mr. Switzer, who was let go without cause, will be in line to receive hundreds of thousands of dollars while local health care services struggle," says Roebuck.
Roebuck says Switzer's contract, stipulated that if his job was terminated and he was unable to find a similarly paying position elsewhere, he would be paid 22 months salary, plus an additional month's pay for every year worked past April 1, 2015.
Given his new position with the Alzheimer Society it's not known if Switzer will receive the full severance deal.
Switzer's tenure at the local integration network ended last May.
