Hooker Not Phased By Rain Delays

The South Buxton Raceway has seen two straight weeks of rainouts, and will hope for better weather Saturday.

In the meantime, 15-year-old UMP Late Model racer Jake Hooker says there's still things to do when competitions are cancelled.

"The first weekend off we got to take time to look at the car. We worked on the car a lot," says Hooker. "Then this weekend, we unloaded the car and checked it over. I've been watching a lot of video so I can hopefully get that first win soon."

Hooker says there are likely both pros and cons for most racers when it comes to rainouts.

"It kind of hurts because when you first get back it'll be a little shaky for the first few laps. But it helps a lot with because then I can learn a lot, watch more about the track to see what happens," says Hooker.

Competition at the South Buxton Raceway gets underway Saturday at 6:30pm, weather permitting.
