Afternoon Stunt Driving Results In Two Arrests

Charges have been laid after two vehicles were seen doing 50 km/h above the speed limit on Hwy. 401 near Mull Rd.

Chatham-Kent OPP say on August 4 around 12:20pm, two vehicles traveling east had registered speeds of 160 km/h and 156 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

As a result, police have charged a 20-year-old Mississauga man and a 25-year-old Etobicoke man with speeding by 50 km/hr or more. The two are expected to appear in a St. Thomas court on September 22. Each of their driver’s licence's have been suspended and the vehicles will be impounded for seven days.

OPP are reminding drivers that stunt driving or racing is one of the most serious and reckless forms of aggressive driving that could result in a number of penalties including:

  • Immediate seven-day licence suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment
  • Upon conviction $2,000 to $10,000 fine, 6 demerit points, up to six months jail, up to two years licence suspension for a first conviction or ten years for a second conviction within ten years.
