More Heat, Spotty Storms For August

Environment Canada says the rest of the summer's forecast should look a lot like the first half of the season.

July saw multiple extreme heat warnings for Southwestern Ontario. But Meteorologist Geoff Coulson says last month's average temperature ended up right where it should be: at around 21.8 C (70 F).

"There were fluctuations, some days where temperatures were certainly hot and humid, and other days those conditions were more seasonal," says Coulson. "That's certainly how August is shaping up."

According to Coulson, August's first heat wave could come as early as Thursday. He adds any rain we'll see in August won't last for long.

"Any precipitation we do get... is likely to be that spotty, intense variety," says Coulson. "We're not really looking at any major storm system that will have any widespread rainfall. So very unsettled conditions."
