Man Pinned By Trailer Dies

A 48-year-old man is dead after being trapped under a trailer canopy at a farm in Malahide Township.

Elgin OPP say a man had been working under the canopy of a homemade trailer at a farm on Ron McNeil Line near Buis Line around 3:40pm Sunday when the canopy fell.

The man was pinned across the waist between the heavy plate steel canopy and the trailer, which was used for hauling ATVs and snowmobiles.

Paul Vanderwyst, 48, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe he was pinned for up to a half an hour.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

The investigation into the incident is on-going, although police do not suspect foul play.
