Bothwell Man Charged After Woman Shot

A Bothwell man has now been charged with firearm-related offences after a woman was shot while fishing on the banks of the Thames River.

The Ontario Provincial Police say on March 11 just after 7pm, officers responded to an area of the Thames River near Bothwell, after receiving a report that a woman had been injured.

Police say a 22-year-old Ridgetown woman suffered a single gunshot wound and was taken to hospital. Her injury was non-life threatening and she was later released.

Officers with the Essex OPP, Middlesex OPP, Moraviantown First Nation Police, Chatham Kent OPP, the OPP Canine Unit, and the Provincial Liaison Team have since identified Dilan Jacobs of Bothwell as a suspect in the shooting.

Jacobs has been charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm, careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and failing to comply with a probation order. He has been held in custody for a bail hearing.
