Doctor Recruitment Still Needed

The medical recruiter for the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance says the return of the area to the high needs designation for doctor recruitment is good news.

Fannie Vavoulis says, for a time, it seemed the area had enough doctors, but there is concern about upcoming retirements.

She says the need is determined by a provincial formula.

"Based on patients who are without a physician, number of physicians in the community," she says. "The fact of the matter is we do (need to recruit) we estimate a little over 20,000 people are still without a family physician, not only that we need to take into consideration there will be retirements."

Putting the area back on the list means Family Health Teams can once again add doctors to their rosters.
