Impaired Driver Hits Bridge

A truck was close to landing in the Sydenham River after an impaired driving incident in Wallaceburg.

Chatham-Kent police say around 11:30pm Thursday, officers responded to the area of McNaughton Ave. and Dufferin Ave. for a single-vehicle crash.

Police say a motorist lost control of his truck, striking the side wall of the Lord Selkirk Bridge. Officials with the CK Police Service say damage to the vehicle and bridge was minimal.

Believing the driver to be impaired, officers brought him back to police headquarters, where he refused breath tests.

Now a 49-year-old Tupperville man is charged with having a blood alcohol level exceeding the legal limit and refusing to provide a breath sample.

CK police pulled over another alleged impaired driving suspect on Harwich Rd. near Talbot Trail around 12:30am Friday. A 30-year-old Ridgetown man faces charges in connection with that incident.
