Recognizing Excellence In Chatham-Kent

The Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce is recognizing a long-time local volunteer with its annual "Citizen of the Year" award.

It's going to Jennifer Wilson, who is currently the chair of the board of directors at the Chatham-Kent Hospice and the local YMCA.

She has big plans for 2016.

"We're going to get this hospice open and we're going to continue to grow and expand the YMCA," says Wilson. "I don't do it alone, you know, that's the great thing -- I'm working alongside all sorts of great volunteers and staff."

Wilson also has some advice for people who are considering volunteering in the community.

"The more you give, the more you get back," says Wilson. "You think you're doing it for other people but in the end you grow so much more and you meet so many wonderful people that in the end, you're enriching your life."

The awards will be presented at a dinner on Thursday, March 31, at Club Lentinas in Chatham. Tickets are $85 and can be purchased by calling the Chamber's office at 519-352-7540, ext. 21.
