With temperatures spiking this week, you might be tempted to think winter is over.
Not so, says a meteorologist with the Weather Network.
"We do expect a couple parting shots from winter in the second half of the month," says Doug Gillham.
However, he says the summer-like temperatures won't take long to settle in. By May, temperatures should be well above average values but at the same time, farmers may have to contend with less precipitation than normal. The forecast for summer is still months away, but Gillham admits there's some concern about drought.
"There's an expression that drought breeds drought," he says. "If you're dry going into the summer, it takes a significant pattern change to undo that."
Environment Canada says the region will see highs between 11C (52F) to 16C (61F) all week.
