Provincial police responded to 17 accidents along Hwy. 401 in Chatham-Kent during last night's winter storm.
OPP say most were tractor trailers that had left the road or jackknifed.
Constable Janine Belanger is reminding motorists to slow down, especially when they see emergency vehicles and tow trucks.
"We want to make sure the emergency personnel are safe out there today on the highways," says Belanger. "And that people are aware that there may be some lane closures and just short road closures of the highway, just to facilitate the vehicles from being removed from the median and ditches."
Belanger says speed was a factor in all of the accidents, and motorists need to slow down and drive to the conditions.
