Ag Community Remembers Harold Smith

The agricultural community across south western Ontario is remembering a pioneer of farm broadcasting.

Harold Smith passed away earlier this week.

Blenheim area resident Janet Nauta recalls Smith's radio market and farm news reports as something every farmer listened to, and in many cases they were conversation stoppers.

"Everyday at noon you'd come in for lunch we'd sitting having animated conversations and dad would be 'Sh everybody be quiet there's Harold Smith the markets are on,' " she says. "Everybody listened to him, he was knowledgeable and trusted and that was the mark that he left in the community."

Smith developed farm market broadcasts for Chatham-Kent radio station CFCO in the early 1960s and was an audience favorite throughout his career.
