Possible Fuel Price Cut

Union Gas customers could be getting a Christmas present from the utility in the form of a rate cut.

Company spokesperson Andrea Stass says Union Gas has applied to the Ontario Energy Board to cut rates.

"If approved, that would go into effect January 1, 2016. What we are looking at is a reduction that is about $50 per year for a residential customer in Ontario," she says. "It's largely driven by the price we expect to pay for natural gas over the next year and to transport it into our distribution system here in Ontario, but we are also seeing some rate reductions that are related to our costs to store the natural gas and distribute it to our customers."

She says some of the costs are adjusted annually and some are adjusted every three months.
