Chatham-Kent public health nurses are taking their contract dispute to the streets in a bid to gain support from community members.
Ontario Nurses' Association First Vice-President Vicki McKenna says members are handing out leaflets and reminding the public how much they do for the community.
"Public health nurses are the disease surveillance people, they're the ones at the immunization clinics, they're in our school system, they're working with new mom's and babies and helping with parenting classes," says McKenna. "We want the community to know that the public health nurses are there every day doing their job and all they're asking for is a fair contract."
McKenna says the ONA members are trying to avoid being forced to strike as the negotations continue. They have been working without a contract since the end of December 2013.
