Chatham K-9 Wins Top Awards

A Chatham-Kent police officer and K-9 team have been recognized by the Police Service Board after winning six top awards at a recent competition.

Constable Rick Bertok says it is an unusual dog.

"He's a Belgian Malinois, his name's Arry, he's from Slovenia, he's about three years old right now," he says.

Bertok says he takes formal training in Windsor but likes to get the dog out of the vehicle and into action as often as possible during regular patrols.

"Any chance we can get, the more training we have the better chance for success down the road," he adds.

Among other awards Arry took first in apprehension, searching, obedience and top rookie dog.

The competition was help in August in Macomb County Michigan.
