Unifor wants public health care to be front and centre during this fall's federal election.
The union's national president Jerry Dias is worried about $36-billion in federal funds being taken away from health care over the next decade, creating a loss in jobs and services.
"We know that by 2020, based on (PM Stephen) Harper's refusal to renegotiate the Health Care Accord, that 80% of costs for all health care is going to be in the hands of the provinces," says Dias. "It was a 50-50 co-share before."
The union boss let it be known that he's throwing his support behind the New Democrats in this election.
Nearly 4,000 people packed the Ciaciaro Club for a rally, hosted by Unifor, on Wednesday.
