Motorcycle Safety Up To Everyone

Provincial police across the province are warning about an increase in the number of motorcycle crashes and a riding instructor says safety is the responsibility of everyone.

Mike Hillier teaches a motorcycle course at both the Windsor and Chatham campuses of St. Clair College and says training is only the start.

"They've picked a great opportunity with the college to learn, everything's controlled, when you get on the road it's not that way, nothing is predictable," he says. "Motorcyclists share the road the same as bicycles do, so I think drivers maybe start to realize that between the months of March and October there will be a prominent number of motorcyclists out."

Hillier believes motorcycle riders are only at fault in accidents about half the time and says it is up to everyone on the road to be aware of conditions and surrounding traffic.
