Playing Hockey With Diabetes

A 7-year-old Chatham boy with Type 1 Diabetes is getting a chance to play hockey with the pros in Milton, Ontario this week.

Antonio Fernandes is taking part in the Dskate Hockey Program in Milton.

"It's kind of frustrating sometimes," says Fernandes. "Sometimes when you're on the ice people say you can't do things that people who don't have diabetes can."

His mom, Melissa, says it's not your typical hockey camp.

"They have professional coaches that came from Montreal and a team of coaches that work with the kids on the ice," she says. "And then when they're off the ice, they learn type 1 diabetic managment when you're playing sports."

Pro hockey player, and Type 1 Diabetic, Cory Conacher is one of the special guests at this week's camp.
