Child Critical After ATV Crash

A 9-year-old boy is in critical condition after becoming pinned between a tree and an ATV being driven by a 6-year-old girl.

OPP say there were a total of five children riding on an ATV at a Malahide Township home last night. On board was a 2-year-old, 4-year-old, 6-year-old and two other 9-year-old boys.

Investigators say when the driver was trying to turn a corner she hit the throttle and lost control, hitting two pine trees. The 9-year-old fell off and hit one of the trees, becoming pinned between the tree and ATV.

When family members heard the commotion they came to the scene and found the child unconscious.

He was airlifted to hospital and is now in critical condition. He is on life support.

None of the children were wearing any protective gear or being supervised.

Charges are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
