Pretrial Starts In Confinement Case

The case of a London couple accused of locking their nephew in a filthy bedroom for up to two years goes to pretrial today. The pair, who cannot be named, both faces charges of forcible confinement and failing to provide the necessaries of life.

A 10-year-old boy was rescued from their Asima Dr. home in May of 2014.

Police say a neighbour saw movement behind a curtain, and having never seen a child at the home felt the need to call the Children's Aid Society (CAS).

Investigators say the boy had been locked inside a squalid bedroom and fed fast food twice a day. According to CAS, he was living in filth, wearing urine soaked pajamas and had shoulder length hair.

He was treated for malnourishment and placed in foster care. The couple's biological daughter was also seized from the home.

The accused are not originally from Canada. It is expected an interpreter will sit through the pretrial with them. A lawyer has appeared on their behalf at all past court dates.
