Focus Turning To Gordie Howe Bridge

With the opening of the Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Pkwy. this past weekend, the attention now turns to the construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge.

Minister of Transport Lisa Raitt says a request for qualifications from interested designers and builders, who want to make a bid, is going out shortly. "We feel, in Ottawa, that things are very much on track. We have the confidence to say to the Crown Corporation, 'Go ahead and release the RFQ, preceding the request for proposals by the end of the year.'"

Raitt says the perimeter road access will be built this year, while land is prepared for the bridge plazas on both sides of the bridge.

She believes the project is still on schedule to be completed by 2020.
