Caesars Windsor CEO Kevin Laforet is surprised to hear that Canada's single-game sports betting bill will die when the House of Commons and Senate stand next.
"It would have been something good for business, good for the industry, and it would have taken a lot of betting that was probably going on illegally and got it on board," explains Laforet. "I'm a little disappointed and a little flabbergasted it got to this point."
Laforet says the single-game sports betting bill had support from labour unions, the business community and gaming associations. It had been pushed through the House of Commons with no issue, but couldn't get through the Senate.
The CEO wishes it had at least gotten to a Senate vote, so that the reasons why the bill failed could be made clear.
He believes there are still avenues to explore with the Canadian government in order to make single-game sports betting legal in the future.
