Students Get Hands-On Experience

A program that gives local high school students a chance to find out what practicing medicine is like is growing in Chatham-Kent.

Dr. George Kim with the Schulich School of Medicine says when the the MedLINCS program first started, it was limited to the hospital, but now it's branching out.

"It's a little glimpse into all aspects of health care," says Kim. "From getting to ride out with EMS staff in order to understand what it's like to respond to a call, to learning how to apply a cast to the forearm of a little child who has just injured themself."

Kim says one of the students who participated in the program a number of years ago as a high school student is now getting ready to graduate as a doctor.
