Kinsmen Fair Celebrates Seventh Decade (Gallery)

The Chatham Kinsmen Club's annual community fair is celebrating its 70th year in the local community.

The Kinsmen Fair kicked off on Thursday at the Chatham Memorial Arena with around 21 rides and a number of midway fair games. The event will also feature a martial arts competition, zoo animals and pony rides over the weekend.

Club President Bob Hughes says the fair requires a great deal of preparation and man power to get off the ground each year.

"We start with next year's fair well before Christmas by trying to line up some entertainment and take a look at what's out there, pricing things out," he says. "It's takes a lot of planning to get things going. Once we do, it's a great weekend."

Hughes says around 3,600 people attended last year's event and he hopes that number will rise for the fair's seventh decade. The fair runs from June 4-7 and kids 5 years old and under get in free. General admission is $5. For more information, visit the fair's website by clicking here.
