Watershed Statement Issued

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority has issued a watershed conditions statement following the heavy rainfall throughout the weekend.

The conservation authority says watershed conditions were relatively dry initially during the rain, but the ground has now absorbed what rainfall it can and the region’s smaller watercourses are now running high.

The region experienced approximately 40 mm to 60 mm of rainfall on Sunday.

The LTVCA says standing water, especially in the low lying areas, could present a safety risk. As well, the water in the region’s watercourses is fast flowing and the banks are muddy and slippery.

Residents are advised to avoid ditches, streams, creeks and the river as a safety precaution.
