Robson Road Park in Leamington is being renamed after the late Rick Atkin.
Deputy Mayor Hilda McDonald says it was an easy decision for Leamington Council to remember the former councillor who passed away suddenly in April.
"He was a friend to all of us, he was a mentor to some of us, he was a colleague; for us to not want this to happen is an impossibility," says McDonald.
Atkin is credited with being the key driver in expanding Leamington's marina, a major factor in getting twin ice pads at the local arena and establishing the Leamington Arts Centre at its current location.
"So few people get to leave a legacy like that," says McDonald. "This is something a man has done for our community and we're all behind that."
Council approved the name change in a unanimous vote on Monday night.
