London Health Sciences Centre is confirming a woman from Windsor-Essex has died after developing flesh-eating disease.
Stacey Lynn Harris, 30, passed away Monday.
According to her online obituary, Harris is survived by her husband Brandon, daughter Lilah and newborn Harper. The family is also thanking health care workers in London for the "care and compassion which went above and beyond."
Visitation will be at the Reid Funeral Home & Reception Centre in Essex on Wednesday from 7-9pm and Thursday from 2-5pm and 7-9pm. The funeral is scheduled for Friday at 11am.
Flesh-eating disease is a rare infection that rapidly works its way through the layers of tissue that surround the muscle. Health Canada estimates there are between 90 and 200 cases per year in the country, with 20-30% of them being fatal.
