Ministry Investigating Furnace Sales

Officials with the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services say they're looking into concerns regarding a group selling furnaces.

Last week, BlackburnNews.com learned a number of Chatham-Kent residents had salespeople coming to their doors asking to inspect the home furnace. Allegedly these salespeople say they're affiliated with the government, and claim the furnace needs replacing.

The ministry's Anne-Marie Flanagan says this is not how the government operates. "Government agencies, local utilities and regulatory organizations do not send salespeople door-to-door."

Flanagan says the ministry has been receiving calls about the company in question as far back as two years. There were 279 complaints or inquiries made throughout Ontario in 2014 alone.
