After the North Kent Wind Project received Chatham-Kent council backing, Entegrus CEO Jim Hogan is calling it key for utilities to get on board with renewable energy.
Hogan says it is a growing trend for utility companies to invest in renewable energy options.
"Utilities need to have a close relatioship with the renewable developers, whether it's wind or solar because they're connecting to our systems," says Hogan. "We have to make sure we can take their power, distribute it and transmit it, so we have to have a good partnership in order to make the best investments."
The Entegrus board has approved a 15% ownership option into the North Kent Wind Project led by Samsung and Pattern.
Other utilities like Bluewater Power have also invested in renewable energy, with the Sarnia utility buying Unconquered Sun based in Tecumseh.
