An 8-year-old Tupperville girl is donating more than $5,000 to the Canadian Cancer Society today.
Hunter Escott raised the money during a skating fundraiser event in Chatham over the weekend where she also cut off and donated some of her hair.
Krissy Rioux, community fundraising specialist with the Canadian Cancer Society in Chatham-Kent, says Hunter was inspired by the passing of her cousin, Shelby, who lost her battle with Leukemia in 2012.
"She had a lot of questions when she was younger as to why her cousin's appearance was changing and that kind of thing," says Rioux. "So after her mother explained everything to her, this was something she wanted to do to help other children who were sick."
Rioux says Hunter's donation has also prompted another young girl to donate her hair to Locks of Love. The money that Hunter raised is going towards childhood cancer research.
