Construction is set to move ahead as planned for the new Chatham-Kent Hospice.
"It's been a challenging process," says Jim Laforet, construction committee chair for the hospice. "We've been at this for eight months from when we went to look for our architects to go through the design phase and then the tender. Our key objective was to get a general contractor on board before spring so that we could break ground in late March or early April and we are on target for that."
Westhoek Construction has been contracted to handle the $3-million build of the new hospice set to be completed November 2015.
Laforet understands parking is an issue needing to be addressed during construction.
"The hospice is being located right on one of the largest parking lots that St. Andrew's [Residence and Terrace] has, so we are working on plans to have alternate parking during the construction phase so we're not interfering or interrupting the local residents," he says.
Laforet says once construction is complete, there will be enough parking spaces to accommodate the hospice as well as St. Andrew's Residence and Terrace.
