Chatham-Kent Director of Employment and Social Services Valerie Colasanti is hoping council will approve a two-year home renovation pilot program.
Colasanti is hoping to have $600,000 over two years approved.
"We've received quite a lot of requests for very small home repairs from people living in our community who are sort of the working poor," says Colasanti. "They're living below the low-income cutoff in Chatham-Kent."
Colasanti says if approved, the program wouldn't be unique in the province.
"I'm not sure if any other municipality has this exact program, but many municipalities have developed programs to help people remain housed," says Colasanti.
The request to council asks for the program to be funded from the Ontario Works Corporate Initiative reserve.
