A recent public health emergency in Ridgetown has municipal officials changing the way residents are notified.
While staff spent hours going door-to-door notifying residents affected by a boil water advisory last week, municipal officials waited at least ten hours before a notice was issued via social media or on their website.
General Manager of Health and Family Services April Rietdyk says they met with various departments yesterday to go over emergency procedures. "The goal of the meeting was to really look at improving the way information is shared, both between departments and with the public," says Rietdyk. "Really looking to find the most efficient and effective and timely manner to really get information out to people."
She says departments will meet over the next couple of weeks to discuss the emergency plan with frontline staff. Rietdyk says the group will reconvene in a couple of weeks to make sure the most efficient way to get information to the public is in place.
