Sutherland Global Services in Windsor is projecting 400 hires over the next three months, but is pressing local governments to improve transportation to make it easier to bring new employees on board.
"The demand for our talent in Windsor has never, ever been stronger," says Lori Atkinson, senior director and head of Canada operations for the company.
Atkinson pitched Essex County Council on the importance of finding transportation solutions.
"Although Windsor and Essex County on paper would say we have a significant unemployment rate, we continue to find it difficult to attract people to our organization," says Atkinson. "If I can get your support to work together to come up with some transportation solutions that would bring people from the county to downtown Windsor, I will be on your doorstep tomorrow in whatever location you need me to be."
Atkinson says Sutherland Global is one of the top five private sector employers in Windsor with over 1,000 people employed in the city.
Essex County Warden Tom Bain tells BlackburnNews.com the transportation issue is well known and efforts to improve services are ongoing. Council made no motions for action Wednesday night, only to receive the delegation from Sutherland Global.
