Chatham-Kent continues to collect ideas for its new animal control bylaw.
About 75 people attended a public meeting Monday night, where Municipal Clerk Judy Smith says she heard a lot about tethering rules and how many animals should be allowed on one property. "Another concern was the reptiles and the prohibiting of the exotic animals, the length of the reptiles, the length of the snakes and lizards. They wanted us to reconsider those types of things," she explains.
Smith says the municipality's been collecting feedback online since January, and will be doing so until the end of the month. After that, administration will review the information, make changes, consult with municipalities and experts in the field, and then bring forth a recommendation to council.
Smith can't specify exactly when the draft bylaw will be before council, but believes it will be this spring.
