Eratic Driver Impaired In Chatham

Some erratic driving has led to an impaired charge in Chatham.

An officer witnessed a car speeding southbound on Thames St. toward the Fifth St. bridge around 10:40pm yesterday with only its running lights on. Police say the vehicle was also abruptly stopping at stop signs and driving close enough to the centre line that vehicles were forced to move towards the curb.

Once pulled over, the officer believed the driver was under the influence of alcohol and the man failed a roadside breath test. The driver was arrested and taken to headquarters where he refused further breath tests.

The 39-year-old Raleigh Township man was charged with impaired driving and refusing the breath tests and released with a future court date.
