Environment Canada says Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent broke another record low overnight.
Warning Preparedness Meteorologist Peter Kimbell says the temperature fell to -26 C (-14 F) at Windsor's airport breaking a record going back to 1963. In Ridgetown, the temperature fell to -24.8 C (-12.64 F) breaking a record set in 1994.
Windsor has broken seven records for cold temperatures this February, but Kimbell says there will be a brief respite next week. "We actually do climb slowly up to near normal by Tuesday (with) a high of 2 C (36 F)," he says. "(There's) liquid precipitation in the forecast (with a) chance of snow or rain. But the bad news is, by Thursday we're back below normal."
As for the rest of March, Kimbell says we can expect temperatures to remain below normal, but "maybe not near the record cold that we've seen in February."
The first day of Spring is three weeks away on Friday, March 20.
