$2M For Parry Bridge Rehab

The provincial government is giving Chatham-Kent up to $2-million to rehabilitate the Parry Bridge.

Manager of Infrastructure Development and Engineering Nelson Cavacas says they'll explore all options for the bridge on Keil Dr. in Chatham. That includes possibly making it a lift bridge again, or even having a solid surface as opposed to metal grates.

"And of course they will be obviously coming down with each of those options for rehabilitation," says Cavacas. "They'll have a dollar component attached which that will be weighed into the decision as we're trying to make the most cost effective rehabilitation approach on the bridge."

Council is expected to approve acceptance of the grant then tenders for the project can be issued. Whatever work is done must be completed by the end of 2016. Cavacas expects most of the designing will be done this year with the majority of the construction coming in 2016.
