UPDATE: 401 Reopens After Fatal Crash

OPP say an autopsy will be done today on the body of a truck driver, killed in a 401 crash on Thursday night.

The identity of the 49-year-old man from Bayham hasn't yet been released. Elgin County OPP Constable Troy Carlson tells Blackburn News family members have yet to make a positive ID.

Police say on Thursday at about 4pm, a tractor-trailer carrying a load of car parts and traveling west on the 401, entered the centre median and then collided with one of the concrete pillars of the Furnival Rd. overpass. Police say the tractor- trailer was completely destroyed in the collision.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was alone in the cab and no one else was hurt. The cause of the crash is still unknown. Diesel spilled on both directions of the highway prompted its closure last night until almost 1 am Friday

Police say the concrete bridge pillar sustained only minor damage in the crash, but it will be examined more closely.
