Leamington OPP Costs Cut Substantially

The municipality of Leamington stands to save $1.5-million in yearly OPP costs when a new funding formula is fully implemented.

A report going to Leamington Council outlines the formula, which is weighted on number of households and severity of calls.

The decrease is being phased in over four years, meaning a savings of $340,000 this year, according to CAO Peter Neufeld. "It certainly eases some of the pressures we're feeling, but you have to remember we have also experienced some difficulties especially around losing Heinz."

The savings will be part of the 2015 budget, which is currently being drawn up. The total cost next year is expected to be $4.6-million.
