Company Won't Seek Financial Restitution

The company that erected eight turbines near the Chatham airport won't seek financial restitution from Transport Canada.

GDF Suez spokesperson Bonnie Hiltz says they're just happy the government agency's demolition order has been lifted.

"We're obviously very pleased that they conducted this full review," says Hiltz. "They've agreed that there's not a safety concern related to the turbines and that it was in the best interest of the community not to enforce."

The company had filed an appeal of the demolition order. Back in July, Transport Canada had ordered the turbines be torn down by the end of December over air traffic safety concerns.
