Muslims Remember Fallen Soldiers, Police (Gallery)

This year a local mosque honoured not only the fallen Islamic soldiers and police officers, but Canadian ones as well.

Nearly 100 people attended a ceremony at the Ahlul-Beit Mosque on Wyandotte St. E Saturday evening.

Mosque spokesperson Sami Habib says Martyrs' Day is the Islamic version of the Canadian Remembrance Day. "Canadian soldiers are also being mentioned in this year's anniversary, specifically because of what happened in Ottawa, and because there's been a lot of words spoken that Muslims in Canada don't take part," says Habib.

Habib says they may continue to honour Canadian soldiers for Martyrs' Day and hold the ceremony close to November 11 every year. "We are involved, we are here and we are a very dynamic part of the Canadian fabric, society and culture," says Habib.
