Chatham's Remembrance Day (VIDEO)

An estimated 750 people showed up at Chatham`s downtown Cenotaph for this year's Remembrance Day ceremony, the biggest turnout the outdoor event has had.

"Of course what's happened in the last few weeks might have some bearing on the attendance," says Master of Ceremonies Ed Broad, speaking to the deaths of Cpl. Nathan Cirillo and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent.

Laying of wreaths, the playing of The Last Post and a flyby from military planes were all part of the event. This also marked the rededication of the cenotaph, with the addition of more names of those who lost their lives in WWI. Korean War Veteran Ron Webb says this was one of the best ceremonies in recent memory. "Everything went along so smooth, plus I got a granddaughter to sing at it and made it that more special."

Officials add that they expect more boosts in attendance if Remembrance Day becomes a statutory holiday next year.
